Position Description #H1U0486. Performs installation force protection and security operation functions. Patrols DLA installation and property to prevent crime and acts of terrorism, protect life and property and ensure compliance with local regulations and laws. Independently performs a broad range of police services, investigation, crime prevention, traffic control, and community policing. Plans and carries out appropriate steps according to specific case conditions, and uses personal judgment in interpreting, adapting, applying and deviating from guidelines based on unusual or emergency situations. Conducts initial investigations of suspicious activities, security breaches, and crimes. Demonstrates a police presence on DLA property by patrolling designated area(s) to preserve law and order, enforce traffic codes, and to prevent and discover the commission of crime. Trains to proficiency with 9mm semi-automatic pistol and shotgun. Performs fixed post operations located within the interior of DLA installations, facilities or at perimeter gates. When performing duties at perimeter gates, access to the post is controlled and officers may be required to prepare and maintain gate logs, visitor and vehicle registers, and gate, vehicle, and pedestrian statistics. Control access to sensitive/restricted areas where there is potential for breach of security, public safety or public health. Incumbent must have knowledge of specialized requirements, methods, and procedures used in safeguarding sensitive defense material. May serve as desk sergeant/communications control/operations with responsibility for the operation of the communications police network and for direction of patrols throughout the installation. Maintains communications with mobile patrol units and posts and passes directions and information to officers on patrol assignments. Acts as first responder to all types of emergencies or volatile situations, including but not limited to terrorist attacks, hostage/barricade situations, bomb threats, vehicle accidents, robberies, alarms activations, and hazardous material incidents.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Applicants must meet eligibility requirements including time-in-grade (General Schedule (GS) positions only), time-after-competitive appointment, minimum qualifications, and any other regulatory requirements by the cut-off/closing date of the announcement. To qualify at the GS-06 level, applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 level. Specialized experience is experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. Examples of specialized experience are identified in the Major Duties section of this vacancy announcement.
